Lot Details
The letter is to the Duke of Devonshire and Hardy relays to the Duke, Lord Nelsons praise of his faithful service, in particular in the Action off Copenhagen 1801. The letter comes with a provenance letter relating to the piece from renowned London dealers Maggs Brothers Ltd, Berkeley, London from 1980. An exceptionally rare document from Nelson's flag captain at the Battle of Trafalgar. Interestingly the Duke of Devonshire's second wife Emma Hart was Lord Nelson's mistress.
