Entries closed - catalogue in production John Bates & Co was a prominent Christchurch-based retailer founded in 1883 by John Bates, with retail shops in Cashel Street, Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland, closing in 1987. They specialised in importing Royal Doulton, Wedgwood, Royal Worcester, Moorcroft, Glassware and other quality English ceramics.
