Whitcombe & Tombs Ltd., London, 1911. 446pp., 4 plates, 8vo green cloth with pictorial onlay, foxing, signature to FEP, one of only 2,000 printed. Local reviews greeted the book as “the new London venture of Whitcombe & Tombs” and were divided in their judgments. The author, Frances Elizabeth Cannon, was born in Christchurch on May 20th 1876, studied music at Canterbury College, then in London with her mother in 1901, By the 1920s she was a glove-maker in Sydney; she was found drowned in 1938, having left a suicide note in her bedside Bible. According to Rowan Gibbs - "A novel that is extremely scarce – I have seen only this one copy in forty-five years of hunting and it was unearthed by the assiduous Don Macmillan."
