Younghusband, a British Army officer was deeply involved in what is called "The Great Game" in the Asian Steppes, travelling vast distances on behalf of the British Empire, keeping an eye on the Russian plans to invade India, exploring Tibet & Chinese Turkestan, crossing the Gobi Desert, all the while mapping his journeys & keeping scientific records. He eventually became the president of the Royal Geographical Society.
