First Edition (2 Volumes), Performed in His Majesty's Ships the Resolution and Adventure, in the years 1772, 1773, 1774 and 1775, Written by James Cook, Commander of the Resolution. In 2 Volumes. First edition, W Strahan and T Cadell, London, 1777, leaf size 22.5 x 28cm, Vol I: xl, 378pp, frontis port, 36 charts and plates, some folding. Vol II: 396pp, 27 charts and plates, some folding, tree calf, rebacked, later EPs & applied spine title labels, ornate gilt spine compartments, surface scratching to boards & corner losses, textblock trimmed, small piercing to FEP of Vol I, some offsetting as usual, episodic foxing, closed tear to folding Chart of the Southern Hemisphere. Armorial BP of Adolphus Tiffany over mounted front pastedown.
