Hawkesworth John - An Account of the Voyages Undertaken By The Order Of His Present Majesty For Making Discoveries in the Southern Hemisphere (3 Vols) And Succesfully Performed by Commodore Byron, Captain Wallis, Captain Carteret, and Captain Cook, In the Dolphin, the Swallow, and the Endeavour. Printed by W. Strahan and T Cadell, London, 1773, illus with engravings, maps and charts, (51 of 52) , Vol I, 20 plates, lacking Chart of part of the South Seas. Vol II, 22 plates, Vol III, 9 plates. Vol I title page lacking lower third and laid down on card, dedication and contents pages repaired, inner front and rear joints taped, pages 675/676 taped repair, Vol 2 good, Vol 3 good, half calf, marbled boards, tipped in hand written slip of paper with name of J. A. Childs to each volume. First plate in Vol I, large folding Chart of the Straight of Magellan 3 holes to centre fold line & 3 small taped repairs to lower edge (none major) and 1 inch split to top right fold. Vol II Chart of NZ has 13cm by 2cm taped repair on the back to lower left hand side, and Vol III Chart of NSW has 1/2 inch tear to right lower edge corner, some old water staining to upper and lower page gutters.
