Label to pastedown From the Emily & Gordon Bottomley Bequest, fly leaf inscribed "For Gordon Bottomley with affectionate homage from Edith Sitwell" Gordon Bottomley (1874-1948) was an English poet, his main influences were the later Victorian Romantic poets, the Pre-Raphaelites and William Morris, he was also a great friend of the artist Paul Nash and a dedicated art collector. In the 1940s he and his wife Emily gave 600 paintings, prints and drawings to Tullie House in Carlisle in the North of England, which included nationally important works by Dante Gabrielle Rosetti, Edward Burne-Jones, William Morris, Arthur Hughes, Ford Madox Brown and numerous other luminaries, and of course his great friend Paul Nash.
