1774, Printed by T. Wright and W. Gill, Oxford, 1774 with flyleaf inscription "Mary Ann Lowe Presented to her by Wm Cook 1790, and on additional leaf an pencil inscription "Elizabeth James Cook at Bishopton Church June the 24th 1787 - in the pew of the old Duke of Newcastle" (Elizabeth was the widow of Captain James Cook, the inference is that Elizabeth used this book on sunday 24th June, 1787. Also contains a Prayer of Thanksgiving to be uted (sic) yearly upon the 5th day of November for the happy deliverance of King James I - from the most traitorous and bloody intended massacre by Gunpowder (relating to Guy Fawkes). In addition also a prayer to be uted (sic) yearly upon the 30th January being the day of martyrdom of the Blessed King Charles I, 14cm x 8cm x 2.5cm, full vellum with pictorial biblical illustrations to the boards. Also with a copy of a letter from the Anglican Church of St Theresa in Bishopton confirming the authenticity of the pew etc. A rare little historical volume.
