Compiled by Venerable Bede, Englishman, Translated out of Latin in to English by Thomas Stapleton, Student in Divinity, with woodcut device to title-page, and 2 full page woodcuts, Imprinted at Antwerp by John Laet, 1565, full calf with later crude fabric spine strip added, old water staining throughout, verso of title-page taped, page 159 to last table page with loss to lower corners, silverfish holes, loss plus old staining to lower right corners from title-page to Preface, letter pasted in at the rear . A scarce first edition in English of Bede's major work, A History of Christianity in England from the Roman period to the early 8th century.
