As Particularly Applicable to New Zealand And Other Colonies: Containing An Account Of The Instruments most Useful To The Colonial Surveyor And Engineer' Instructions For Laying Out Towns, Country And Suburban Lands; The Solution Of Some Of The Most Useful Problems In Practical Astronomy; The Method Of Conducting Marine Surveys, And General Directions For The Construction Of Colonial Roads by Arthur Whitehead, Late Civil Engineer and Surveyor to the New Zealand Company At Port Nicholson. Ref; Bagnall 6039. Exceptionally scarce. Whitehead who argued with Samuel Charles Brees, wrote this text after his return to England in 1845. Apart from its dedication to the directors of The New Zealand Company, the chapter on laying out country lands and incorporates his surveying experiences in the Hutt Valley and Mangaroa. The map "Chart of the Country between Manawatu and Port Nicholson shows the route of the Kettle and Wills Wairarapa exploring expedition of 1842, of which Whitehead was a member.
