Lot Details

the interior with lidded compartment and small drawer. Provenance: The trunk belonged to a John Bullen, born in London and lived in Greenwich. John went to join the navy at an early age. He ended up in irons after striking an officer, then escaped after being brought back to land and assumed the name John Smith (his mothers maiden name). He returned to sea with the Merchant Navy and was eventually paid off in NZ, where here he worked around the coast, then later opened a second hand store on Adelaide Rd in Newtown, Wellington. This lot includes his NZ Federated Seaman's Union members book/diary, and various discharge papers.
