engraved blade marked Hobsons & Sons London on gilt brass embossed emblem folding guard, lion mask pommel and wire bound shagreen grip, fitted in original scabbard 95.5cm overall length, the blade engraved Napier Naval NZ Artillery Volunteers Capt. F G Smith. Frederick George Smith after maritime career 'came ashore' in Napier 1876, was in command of hte Napier Naval Academy from 1895 to 1897
