Spencer Blackett, London, 1888. First U.K. edition (Scott 9A; McKay 9B), 16 Illustrations. 286pp, plus 32pp catalogue, dy 8vo maroon pictorial cloth, some foxing with owner’s signature on p.19. The plot reflects Haggard’s own relations with his publishers, the then-current issues of women's rights and their image within society. Set on a voyage to New Zealand.
