A Ceremonial Funerary Mask From the Dogon People Of Mali Carved wood and plant fiber. Walu or antelope masks were worn by dancers for the dama or final commemorative ceremony for an important Dogon elder. This example is surmounted by Yasa who brought rainwater from the sky in a jug which formed the lake in which life began. Provenance: private collection of Michael Yoffe H 70cm
