with folding brass handle and Bramah loch, the interior with lift out tray, inkwell and blotter, together with its original outer tan leather case. Both embossed in gilt A. W. Hogg, Wellington. Alexander Hogg (1841-1920), was a member of parliament for Masterton, contesting the election in 1887, but was beaten by George Beetham. He represented the Masterton electorate in the New Zealand House of Representatives for 21 years from 1890 to 1911. From 1904 until 1905 he was the Liberal Party's junior whip.
