First edition. Simon and Schuster, New York, 1960. 312pp 8vo cloth, foxing. The novel was reviewed at great length by James K. Baxter in Comment: “…this strange, makeshift, crude, showy, sophisticated, magnificent book … the fullest, clearest, most precise document of a woman’s interior life to appear yet in New Zealand”. This copy is inscribed by the author to W.H. Oliver, editor of Comment: “…Here is the cold body – we appreciated the funeral oration by Jim Baxter in your paper…”.
