An untitled novel in manuscript, author surname possibly Davys, approximately 30,000 words, 236 pages, written in ink in seventeen lined notebooks, several corrections and amendments in pen and pencil, undated, but late 19th century. The first section of the novel is set in Devonshire, then one of the main characters, who has got himself into a fix, travels to New Zealand on the steamship ‘Rimutaka’. Much of the rest of the book is set in “Makaho”, said to be about a hundred miles south of Dunedin (p.100). Last purchased from a London bookdealer who stated it derived from a family named Davys who lived mainly in the West Country.
