Macmillan and Co., London, 1904. iv, 393pp, 8vo red cloth gilt, top edge gilt, foxing on fore-edges else near fine in good d/w. First edition, but a later issue - no ads at EP, with the tan not the earlier white d/w. The stories include ‘Mrs Bathurst’ resulting from Kipling’s 1891 New Zealand visit – she keeps a public house at Hauraki, though it is said that the original for the story was a barmaid at Coker's Hotel, Christchurch.
