Lot Details

The Author, Canberra, 1978 Foxing scattered throughout. Gold spent some time in New Zealand and for a period worked at Smith’s Bookshop in Wellington, to whose proprietor Dick Reynolds this copy is inscribed although he was charged him for it. An accompanying typed letter explains that he intends “having two new sets of Xerox copies of [the book] run off”, of which this appears to be one. He adds that in 1968 he set himself up in London as a literary agent under the name “Lawrence Templeton” and wrote to publishers recommending novels by one William Gold. However, with no success, his main claim to fame was an entry in the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s least-successful author.
