William Swainson (1789 - 1855) Remarkable Rata Tree Growing Unsupported Hawks d 1846 pencil & charcoal inscribed with title to mount 14 x 8.7cm Inscribed verso: "On close inspection I could not perceive that this tree had ever been a parasite, as its trunk was solid all round, it was afterwards burnt by the natives in 1847 WS"
