oval form featuring a moa with a vista towards Mt Taranaki in the background. Stamped “WRB” to the reverse with NZ sterling silver marks. Later monogram dated 1893 to reverse. Also signed “Bock” under applied leaves to front. Bock arrived in Wellington in 1868 and set up business as a lithographer and engraver. In the 1870s he designed and prepared the dies for NZs first stamps. He was also very highly regarded as an engraver and illuminator, his significant contributions including the NZ International Exhibition Set, the NZ Industrial Exhibition medals and certificates and the first chromolithographic book printed in NZ (Art album of New Zealand Flora). He was also lauded for his involvement in the development of NZ stamp production between 1875 and 1931. W 5.5cm Est $2,000 - 4,000
