Being A Short Biography Of Colonists Who Distinguished Themselves In Upholding Her Majesty's Supremacy In These Islands, bound with A Maori History Being A Native Account of the Pakeha-Maori Wars in New Zealand by Lieutenant-Colonel McDonnel Of The New Zealand Militia, published by Henry Brett, Auckland, 1887, half red morocco, marbled EPs & fore-edges, ex libris red leather BP of Henry Hannen, In his obituary he was described as 'A traveller surveying mankind from China to Peru, who not only noted the geography but became an authority on the ethnology of the regions he covered". He was the son of renowned High Court judge Lord Hannen.
