Mervyn Taylor, Artist:Craftsman' (Steele Roberts, 2006). p 80. "The Magical Wooden Head, a 1956 woodbox engraving considered by many to be Taylor's greatest work. It was printed in an edition of 25 and submitted with his successful application for the New Zealand Art Societies' Scholarship. A tohunga is depicted testing the evil powers of a wooden head which has the means of causing death of anyone gazing on it."
