Thomas Ball Karaka watercolour heightened with white signed & dated '88 (lower centre); inscribed with title (lower left) 21.5 x 31cm (oval) Provenance: Thomas Ball’s Karaka depicts the house owned with his wife and two children in Karaka (Creek) in the Coromandel, during this time George Valentine painted the Pink & White Terraces based on Ball’s memories of them pre-destruction. The painting of the house was exhibited on the popularity of his pink and white terraces at the Canterbury Galleries from 1902-1906. ‘Karakaʼ sold for 6 pounds in Canterbury 1891 and 12 pounds during a travelling exhibition in 1898.
