Rare Chatham Islands Morori Patu Okewa (Hand Club) Abstracted avian form, carved from Rekohu schist. Probably used historically for ceremonies or the hunting of seals as the Morori embraced a pacifist culture that avoided all forms of warfare. A similar example is held in the collection of the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa 40cm length. Y 21284
